Serhiy Tokarev about a Future without uprisings: How AI technologies will transform Ukraine

Serhiy Tokarev, an IT entrepreneur and investor, and one of the founders and partners of the investment group Roosh, expresses his thoughts on the rapid development of artificial intelligence against the backdrop of recent events.

Having worked in the high-tech industry for more than two decades, Serhiy Tokarev has seen how artificial intelligence is rewriting the rules of the game. At this year’s Community Web Summit, discussions covered a wide range of topics, but artificial intelligence received the most attention.

This rapid advance in AI is not only revolutionizing companies’ business processes but is also having a profound impact on society as a whole. We can already see how cars are becoming more intelligent and autonomous every day, which opens up new horizons of opportunities and challenges.

According to Serhiy Tokarev, with the development of artificial intelligence, serious discussions are arising about the dangers it may pose. Politicians, technology experts, and public figures have expressed many concerns regarding issues such as the protection of property rights, the creation and distribution of fake data, ethical issues related to AI decision-making, and legal liability for their consequences. At the same time, the possible displacement of many jobs due to automation is being discussed – according to estimates by investment firm Goldman Sachs, up to 300 million jobs worldwide could be automated using technology.

These worries make people want to control things. For instance, there was a big meeting called the AI Safety Summit in London last November. They decided to check if really smart AI systems are safe. Also, the UK decided to make a special group called the AI Safety Institute to focus on keeping AI safe for everyone. This isn’t just happening in Europe. In the US, President Joe Biden made a rule that AI companies have to tell the government how they train their models and share results to make sure they’re safe.

Although it seems that such steps will help guide the development of artificial intelligence, in reality, this is not the case. Firstly, all discussions around artificial intelligence take place between government representatives and industry giants. This makes it difficult for small startups to enter the market and slows down overall progress in technology.

Second, the current debate about artificial intelligence focuses on highly unlikely scenarios. Could artificial intelligence rebel against humanity? Will civilization end because of him? If this happens (which is extremely unlikely), it will not be today or tomorrow. However, panic over the potential future distracts us from the real threats we already face, such as the use of deep fakes ahead of the US presidential election. According to Serhiy Tokarev, we cannot predict all the problems that may arise in the artificial intelligence industry in the future.

Artificial intelligence is like a tool, and how it’s used depends on the people who make and use it. When we talk about who’s responsible, it’s definitely up to us humans. AI is more likely to help humanity than harm it because we can control and predict how it works in ways that we can’t do with people.

Serhiy Tokarev points out that Ukraine is getting into using artificial intelligence in businesses, making it a leader in Eastern Europe. Ukraine sees the chance to be a big testing area for AI technologies worldwide, which could bring in investments and help the economy grow. Also, Ukraine is thinking about how AI can be used in the military. They believe that working with top companies and developing military technology will not only help with defense but also speed up the country’s recovery and progress.
